Sylvanian Storytime: A Double Wedding in Sylvania; The Wedding Feast; Late Night Sing Song; Pages from the Sylvanian Gazette (Competition Page and A Surprise for the Happy Wedding Couples); An Unusual Way of Saying Thank You

Welcome to another installment of Sylvanian Storytime! We are reading a new round of stories from the Original Sylvanian Families Storybook.   These stories all revolve around a very special event in the Sylvanian Woods, the double wedding of Hickory and Lily Windward and Morris and Kelsey Sweetwater.

It is a great time to revisit these stories, now that spring has arrived.  I really enjoyed reading these because it brings to mind my best day ever, when Wajiii and I were married.  Hopefully the Sweetwaters and Windwards are as happy as we are!

The storybook scans may appear difficult to read at first, but don’t worry; there is an easy fix: If you click on any of these images, you will be taken to a new page to view a much easier-to-read version, as well as enlarge it to your liking.

The wedding couples are so sweet.  When I first read the book, I realized I was missing Morris and Kelsey and Hickory and Lily, so I immediately began seeking them out.  Luckily, they regularly appear on eBay and are not difficult to find. Although, oftentimes grooms are missing jackets and brides have lost their veils.

A Double Wedding in Sylvania

The wedding celebrations begin with photos of the happy couples and a song specially written by Prissy Thistlethorn.

The Wedding Feast

The Sylvanians celebrate the new marriages with a feast!  Below, you will find recipes from Crystal Babblebrook herself.  Thankfully, Crystal was able to keep Pearl from the kitchen while preparing food for the big event (if you have not read the previous entries, Pearl is an infamously bad cook)…

Late Night Sing-Song

There is music throughout the day in honor of the double wedding.  The late night Sing Song looks like so much fun!  I love the instruments that are shown on this page, particularly the banjo!  If you are not familiar with the tunes of the original songs, they are easy to find via a YouTube search, so you can sing with the Sylvanians.

NOTE: We found some good videos of these songs for you, so you do not end up trying to fit Prissy’s words to the wrong tune from this Blur song with a very smimilar title from the mid-1990s:

The Thistlethorns made sure this very special event was thoroughly covered in the Sylvanian Gazette.  I love that the Sylvanians built new homes for the wedding couples while they enjoyed their honeymoons.  The question is…where did they go?  The Sylvanian Woods are so idyllic, I can’t imagine a nicer place to be.  Maybe there are secluded vacation cabins deeper into the woods?

An Unusual Way of Saying Thank You!

I am so glad I read about the Sweetwaters and the Windwards unusual thank you gift!  It had crossed my mind to give them “everyday” outfits, so they could keep their wedding attire pristine, but that would have ruined their lovely way of thanking their neighbors.

Congratulations Lily and Hickory and Kelsey and Morris!  Thank you for sharing your special day with us here in the world of the giants.

Thank you for reading; there will be more scans from this book coming in the next week or two!

  1. Thank-you for posting these stories, they remind me so much of the Sylvanians I grew up with in the early 90’s. The wedding couples are really sweet and I love their special reason for wearing their wedding outfits every day.

    1. Thanks so much for visiting! I’ve not been able to post much in the past couple of months, but hopefully that will change soon. There is a rather large pile of Sylvanian items waiting to be unboxed 🙂
