Meet the Springer and Hopper Kangaroo families!
The Springers were released by both Flair (2011) and Epoch (2014). Epoch figures have the flat hand style, but the earlier Flair Springers have gripping hands.
Kangaroos exist in the US Calico Critters line (the Hopper family), but with a different appearance and names. The Japanese and Calico Critters versions look alike, while the UK kangaroos (Springers) have darker noses, longer ears, and more pronounced facial features.
The father, mother, sister, and tiny baby photographed for this page are the JP/CC style. The baby twins are from the UK line.
My favorite aspect of the Springers and Hoppers is the extra-tiny baby that fits in her mother’s apron pouch! Each version consists of a father, mother, sister, and very small baby sister. Additionally, twin babies are available in a separate set for the UK Springers.
Official UK Biography Information – Springer Kangaroo Family
Father Bruce Springer runs the Sylvanian Cricket Club and is also the captain of the team. Depending on which team wins the toss of the coin he either opens the batting or begins the bowling. His finest hour – and it did only take an hour – was when he bowled out the entire second eleven for only twelve runs and then opened the batting for his team and hit each of the first three balls for six. What a win!
Mother Sheila Springer is a great all round sportswoman and is especially good at netball. She is often found at the netball courts either playing her favourite position of goal defence (GD) or coaching one of the junior teams. She works hard at all her sports, encouraging her children to do the same. “Winning is not everything, beating your PB (Personal Best) is!” she claims.
Sister Joanne Springer, like the rest of her family, is sports mad. Her favourite activity is running; to be precise, long distance running. She trains very hard at this, getting up at six o’clock every morning in order to run around the fields, having a quick shower before she dashes off to catch the school bus.
Baby Joey Springer loves to play bat and ball with his father, Bruce. He usually misses the ball with the bat, which makes both him and his daddy laugh. The sports stars of Sylvania on the cricket pitch and netball court.
Joseph & Josephine Springer spend hours with their mother Sheila at the netball courts. They love to put the netball bibs on and throw a ball together and try and shoot goals. (Twin set)
Official Calico Critters Biography Information – Hopper Kangaroo Family
Mother, Sandy takes care of the family’s home. She likes to keep busy cleaning until the house is sparkling clean. She also loves to bake cookies and pies. Father, Richie is a huge sports fan and works as a sports writer for the Cloverleaf Corners newspaper. Sister, Isabella is the most popular girl in school. She is a member of several clubs including gymnastics and tennis. Baby girl, Katie loves to take a lot of naps and listen to lullabies.
The Springers’ first names are quite similar to the first names of Calico Critters Outback Koala Family. Both families are marsupials from Australia. Shelia is Australian slang from woman, while Bruce is an Australian suburb in Canberra. Joey is the term used to refer to baby marsupials. All of the Springer children have “Jo” themed names. A distinguishing trait of marsupials is that they carry their infants in a pouch, so the tiny baby that fits in her mother’s apron is a really cute way of replicating this.
There are no twins or additional babies for the JP/CC kangaroos. These twins are part of the UK Springer family.
Thank you for getting to know the Springers and the Hoppers! Their cute, friendly faces, and the extra tiny baby make kangaroos families a fun addition to your village. The Sylvanian Shop has both the Springer family of four and the twin set. The Springers and the Hoppers have been added to the Greenbearshire wiki.
21 September 2017 Update
Hello! The Springer Family has recently joined my collection, so I’m updating this post with some photos.
I’ve added a photo of Mrs. Springer and Mrs. Hopper together, so you can compare the differences between the two molds. Mrs. Hopper is on the left, Mrs. Springer is on the right.
